Sir Garfield Sobers visits Shenfield High School

Garry Sapsford, our 3rd XI Captain and Head of PE at Shenfield High School, with cricket legend Sir Garry Sobers.
Shenfield welcomed Sir Garry Sobers to their school this week. The legend of cricket spoke at length to the boys about his passion for the game and the value of sports participation to a healthy life generally.
Shenfield have been invited to his renowned festival in Barbados next year as a result of the school's outstanding cricketing achievements in recent seasons. The U-16 squad have won 3 county titles in 4 years - unprecedented for a state school. Shenfield are indeed the first state school to enter the tournament in its 23 year history. In that time many greats of the game have played there, including Brian Lara, Shiv Chanderpaul and England's Alistair Cook.
All the nine members of the school squad named below play for SCC, with Matt Salisbury being regularly in the 1st XI.
