Jack Petchey Award Scheme
2009 AWARD WINNERS
Many Congratulations to all!
Chris Chapman - age 15, has continued in his efforts from last year in supporting all the junior colts, especially at indoor winter pre-season training sessions. Always looking to help and advise our younger players, he has proved a great source of encouragement to all around. He leads by example -recognised as a person never to shy away from helping out - without being asked, through to ensuring all equipment is stored away. On the field he is proving to be an excellent batsman and a fine example for our younger members.
Chris wishes his award to be used for tent/gazebo for pitch side club use.
Chris Chapman received his award from Stuart Borman, the club's Petchey Co-ordinator.

David Edwards (seniors) - age 19, has been with the club for over 10 years now. He has progressed through all the clubs colts age groups. Over the last couple of season he has gained and established himself as a batsman for the club senior 3rd XI side. He scored his first maiden senior century for the club this season, and besides this milestone, is proving a fine example for the younger players who also aspire to play for the club's senior sides in the future.
David has asked that his award funds be contributed towards new/net improvement facilities.
David received his award from Garry Sapsford, 3rd XI Captain.

Charlie "Boxer" Lewis - age 13, has spent much of his time with his leg in plaster over the years, and so lost a tremendous amount of muscle, which he has had to work hard to rebuild.
Involved now with many school sporting activities, he has two great passions - Boxing and Cricket. As well as being a Shenfield colt, he represents Brentwood Youth ABC (under 40kg) and it is anticipated after a recent victory that he will be put forward to take part in the ABA national competition next season. He is a true sportsman who never sulks or walks away if he is not selected, but instead he will support his team mates and peers.
Charlie wishes his award money to be spent on coaching equipment - ie stumps, balls, bats, markers, etc
Charlie received his award from Adam Knapp, U13B Team Manager.
Ben Loader - age 12, is a very focused cricketer who is always determined to work hard and improve his game. His hard work over the winter and at training sessions has allowed him to make great strides this year. When keeping he is now standing up to some of the quicker bowlers, which takes courage, determination and skill. This has resulted in him taking a number of stumpings this year - in fact more stumpings than catches, which is the sign of a really good keeper. Ben is also a very good runner between the wickets, using speed, vision and good communication to steal quick singles. Ben has rightly been rewarded with appearances for the district side.
Ben would like his award funds to be spent on groundsman 'make over' for outfield colts strip/practice/training areas.
Ben received his award from Alan Moreton, U13A Team Manager.
Alex Waltham - age 15 has proved to be a constant helper for our coaching staff. He assisted with the coaching of the colts during last season, and already this season has shown his great commitment and patience whilst doing so. Alex is progressing into a promising wicket keeper, and shows great enthusiasm, playing even with a couple of finger injuries for the U16 matchplay side.
Alex has asked that his award money be contributed towards new/net improvement facilities.
Alex was presented with his award by Richard Owers, U16 Team Manager.

Joe Hedden - age 23, has progressed through the colts programme to now be appointed as 3rd XI vice captain for the 2010 season. He has developed through the club's coaching system to become a very good bowler. Although currently studying away from the area, he still commits much time and energy to the club, by ensuring he regularly returns during term time to help with the younger players development - both on and off the field.
Joe's £200 grant will be used for an additional portable club score display/table for the 4th XI to use at their home games.
Joe received his award from Peter Rider, Club Captain.

Jack Kliber - Jack has progressed well as a wicket keeper and batsmen this year and has now fully established himself as the senior club's 1st team wicket keeper. He is often at the club on Sunday mornings, looking to assist/pass on tips to the club's younger team players. He will again be instrumental in the specialist "glove training" programme held for all our younger wicket keepers during the indoor winter training activities in Jan 2010.
Jack received his award from Stuart Borman during the 2009 Season Presentation Evening, held on 20th February 2010. He has asked that his £200 grant be used towards fees for training courses for additional coaches and first aiders for the club.
Steve Cunnew - A club could not function without people in the mould of Steve Cunnew. He truly embodies the fun loving spirit of cricket and sport within our club. His natural exuberance and enthusiasm rubs off on everyone he comes into contact with - always giving tips, help and advice. Steve's other sporting commitments mean he is unfortunately often not available for the start of all matches, but when he does arrive he is always ready and willing to be called upon for any task - be it on the field or off it.
Steve received his award from Stuart Borman during the 2009 Season Presentation Evening, held on 20th February 2010. He wishes his £200 grant to be used towards cost for additional outside gazebo/marquee for club use/functions.

Mike Humphrey - Although he has missed out on playing this year due to a difficult long term knee injury, he has still remained committed to helping the club in many ways. He has gladly given up his time to assist with the scoring at both home and away games, and is always willing to lend a hand by volunteering for match day tasks that many players prefer not to do! He has made great culinary efforts in the clubhouse, preparing cricket teas and after match players' suppers - much to the appreciation and acclaim of his peers.
Mike would like new kitchen equipment and utentsils to be purchased with his £200 grant.
Leader's Award
ALLAN SALISBURY - Facilities Manager Shenfield CC, has been granted the Leader's Award.
Allan has given much commitment and service to the club over the years. He has been instrumental in all the renovations and maintenance work required within the clubhouse - making things happen.
These tasks have ranged from a host of self/ general maintenance cleaning tasks, through to full project management; including tendering, overseeing and managing to conclusion any required/commissioned work on behalf of the club.
A spate of unfortunate break-ins has also seen him deal with police matters, subsequent insurance claims, then supporting loss adjusters and their contractors on behalf of the club. He has recently been instrumental in the planning and installation of new security and alarm system facilities for the club.
Previously Allan had campaigned for toughened clubhouse window glass to be installed, for the safety purposes of all our senior watching members, and he totally supervised all the installation work in his own time. He has also been involved in the commissioning and the renewing of much needed electrical work for club, always being on hand to oversee extensions and cabling work to difficult parts of the club and ground.
His current 'live' project is to get patio doors installed within the club - so as to create additional space options for a possible marquee annexe, and thus enable any club events to be better attended. Continuous improvements are indeed always his aim - never seemingly resting, and constantly looking to maximise and improve all the facilities for the members and guests.
During the summer time his workload and effort is obvious to all, however the amount of effort he puts in during the winter is incredible. This ranges from preparing our club meetings and events, organising various volunteer working parties, through to securing all club property. Often seen in the club containers, tidying hunting and storing...painting work etc....the list goes on.
These tasks though are all constantly performed with him utilising his own time, even annual leave when required. This giving of his time may not perhaps always be fully recognised or understood by all members and our users of the club. However, a JP leader's award will really allow the Club to give him a formal 'thank you' on behalf of all the members.
Allan received his award from the Mayor of Brentwood, David Tee, at a special Jack Petchey Awards Evening held at the club on Friday 10th September 2010.
