We are sad to report that Club Vice President Alan Stewart (affectionately known as Big Al) has passed away.
Alan was a very good opening bowler for many years during the 60s, 70s and 80s. He took 5 wickets or more on at least 35 occasions with a best of 8-47.
Although predominately a bowler and tailender, he was no mean performer with a bat. He hit quite a few sixes in his time, had a top score of 148 and still holds the first team 10th wicket partnership record of 140 with Frazer Bridges (which dates back to 1968).
A good social member of the club, Alan always sat at the same place at the bar on one of the high stools with a pint of lager.
Although he had moved up to Warwickshire, he still kept in touch with the club and came down to attend the VP Lunches until ill health caught up with him.
Our thoughts are with all of his friends and family.
Mike Jarvis and Chris Wright
I trust you are all looking forward to leaving the cold days of winter behind as the spring and summer months approach ever nearer.
The winter net sessions at SHS have been a great success, with every session fully attended by new and existing members.
Following the club’s successes last season in various age group league and cup tournaments and with our first summer training sessions commencing on the 19th April, it promises to be another good year for cricket at the club.
To determine the number of juniors returning to training this season, membership is now open and as our numbers continue to increase, it is becoming ever more important to have a pool of eager parents that can assist with coaching sessions. Involvement does not have to be weekly, but the more people that get volunteer and help, the more children can become involved in the game. Without enough coaching staff and volunteers, numbers could be limited!
Regrettably, the club has had to make the decision to increase the cost of membership this year, changing to £90.00 per child, with a reduced membership fee of £45.00 for those children sitting their GCSE examinations this year. The membership fee continues to automatically include social membership for parents and/or guardians. Parents confirming membership for additional siblings will receive a £20.00 voucher (per additional sibling), which be able to be redeemed at the club bar.
All membership fees should be paid online using the following:
BANK: HSBC
ACCOUNT NAME: Shenfield Cricket Club
ACCOUNT NUMBER: 91100467
SORT CODE: 40-11-60
NOTE: Please reference each payment with your child’s school year/full name.
The membership form is to be completed for each child joining the club. Once complete – and with the membership fee paid, save the completed form to your PC/laptop and then email to Martin Ekers at ekers@hotmail.com attaching the form to the email.
If you are interested in helping or want to know more about volunteering some time to help with coaching sessions, manage a team (We have a vacancy for U9 Manager) or have any questions in general, please email either myself at matthewpryor@hotmail.co.uk or our club chairman Martin Ekers at ekers@hotmail.com

We are looking for someone to take on the technical side of things, with regards to the SCC website, so are reaching out to see if anyone within the club has experience in the field of websites (or knows someone else who does). If you're familiar with terms such as, 'CMS', 'API', 'LAMP stack' and 'DNS', work in web-based software development and are able/willing to commit some time to help us run the website (with support in the transition period), please do let us know by emailing hannahjanekirby@yahoo.com.
After many years of incredible support of Shenfield CC, Susan Wright is stepping aside from running our website, and her son Doug from the development / technical side of it. The Wright family have been integral to the successful running of the club on and off the field for decades, and we are sure you will all join us in saying the biggest of thankyous to them for everything they have done for SCC.
We have a new kit supplier, please ensure you use the new link for ordering any SCC kit: https://teamwear.nxt-sports.com/shop/shenfield-cricket-club

With the world cup just around the corner please see below for our plans to show England's three group games.
With it being a winter World Cup, it does mean we are limited with the amount of people we can fit in. At the same time, because of this we also need to make sure that people who say they are coming to watch do actually come. So, we will be doing a pre booked guestlist with money to be paid ahead of each match day.
SPACES AVAILABLE
If you would like to reserve your space, you will need to make payment in cash at SCC on Mondays 5pm - 11pm, or Saturdays 3pm - 6pm (or arrange with Roachy when booking.)
Tickets will be first come first served and your place will only be reserved once payment has been made. To book your spaces please email Roachy on poacher97@hotmail.com or via WhatsApp on 07952 498009. (Your ticket money is not refundable if you do not come.)
FIXTURES
We are expecting tickets to sell fast, so get booking and your money paid in early to avoid disappointment!!
With the first game being 1pm on a Monday we are assuming that children will be at school, so we can have more adult spaces. If anyone knows if schools are planning a half day, please let Roachy know.
Thanks for your support!
