Shenfield High School — we are very proud of you!
The school has again made it into The Cricketer Schools Guide list.
Entries were judged against an extensive set of criteria, which included a compelling commitment to cricket in the curriculum, facilities, fixture programmes and coaching.
When you look at the list it is clear that they are in some very good company!

Matt Salisbury
Durham County Cricket Club have announced that Shenfield’s Matthew Salisbury has signed a two year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2022.
Matt joined Durham in May 2018 and featured in every Durham first class and one day game until May 2019 when injury brought his unbroken run to an end. Although available again by late August his appearances since then have been less frequent, but he featured in three of the County’s Bob Willis Trophy games in the Covid-shortened 2020 season.
After his first season he was awarded Durham’s Breakthrough Player of Year trophy, having taken 44 first class wickets including the prize scalps of former international stars Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott.
Matt has now taken 95 career first class wickets at an average of 31.07 and a strike rate of 51.72. His best first class bowling performance is 6-37 against Middlesex at Chester-le-Street. Formerly of Essex and Hampshire, he now seems settled at Durham so, sadly, an imminent appearance in Shenfield colours appears unlikely! Here is a great photo of Matt.

Derek Willmott
We are sad to report that Derek died suddenly last Sunday.
At different times Derek captained the Saturday 2nd XI and the Sunday 2nd XI .
His bowling produced 5 five-wicket hauls, the best being 5-9 in 1988.
He was a Committee Member from 1973 - 1994, Hon. Secretary from 1978 – 1981 and Chairman from 1987 - 1994.
In 1995 Derek was voted in as a Life Vice-President.
Our sincerest condolences to his wife Jill and family.

Stuart Mathieson
We were very sad to hear that Stuart passed away suddenly on Thursday.
Stuart was an Old Brentwoods schoolboy who played for Spartan football club along with many SCC players such as Peter, Michael and Chris Wright. His son Jonathan was a Shenfield Colt. Stuart lived in Chelmsford Road. He was secretary of Brentwood Theatre and an active member of Old Brentwoods. He was also a cousin of Mary Hindley, Bill’s late wife.
Our sincerest condolences to his wife Sharon and her son Jonathan and daughter Sarah, also Daniel, son from a previous marriage.

Jack Plom
Very pleased to report that Shenfield player Jack made his full County debut in the T20 game today v Surrey. It's a shame that there is not much of this season left but there's always next year and we wish him all the very best.

Sixes Tournament
For the second year in a row, Shenfield Cricket Club held its Sixes tournament on Bank Holiday Sunday. The club welcomed teams from the table tennis club and the local scouts who played alongside teams of SCC Colts parents and volunteers providing a lot of fun for all those who came and supported both the players and the bar!

A total of six teams battled throughout the day with Pryor's Players victorious in a hard fought final against the Bar Supporters team, going down to the final ball which was hit for six by Garry Griffin.

As always, events like this could not go ahead without a lot of hard work from those organising and running them, as such a huge thanks to Guy who worked tirelessly in arranging the day and to Martin Spicer, Stu Borman and Richard Small who spent the day scoring and umpiring.

The picture here is the winning team (aka The Magnificant Seven!) with their trophies.

Leonard George Hall
We are sad to report that Leonard passed away yesterday.
He played for Shenfield in the fifties and sixties, appearing in his last game in 1976. He was an impressive bowler and once took 9 wickets for ten runs!
Our condolences to his family.
14th June 2020
A blast from the past!
A great photo has been sent to us from Australia which shows our old SCC pavilion at the top of the field before the verandah was added to the front of it. See it here.
The match was between pupils from Shenfield School and Bentley School in 1948.
You can see what the toilet – an Elsan, not plumbed, was like on our History page here! Photos there of the pavilion were taken after the verandah was added.

Alternative Cricket Tea yesterday.
A massive thank you to both SCC members and local residents for all your food bank donations today.
We filled two car loads and took them down to the Daily Bread Cafe who are doing an amazing job of feeding people locally and were very thankful. See photo here and here is another.
2nd June 2020
Shenfield Cricket Club is pleased to be hosting an ‘Alternative Cricket Tea’ on Saturday 6th June at the clubhouse.
The Club will be collecting food donations between 10am-12pm, in support of the Daily Bread Cafe, our local food bank. This is aiming to provide help for people within our community who are experiencing a crisis and we’re asking Members, supporters and local residents to donate what they can during these difficult times. All food banks are understandably currently experiencing high demand for food and basic amenities.
Please see full details here.

Coronavirus — the implications for our club
Sadly, the season is in lockdown for the time being and we can only hope that we are in a position to start cricket again later in the summer, but even that may be optimistic.
The problems the club face are many, but it was clear at our first "virtual" (conference call) committee meeting on Monday that one of our biggest challenges, like many "not for profit" community organisations is financial.
To that end, we are asking all our members to voluntarily advance a payment equivalent to 50% of their annual subs payment (more if you wish) to the club.
We are only asking this of you if you are able – as we know personal situations will vary.
Should the season go ahead later in the year, we would offset these monies against the annual membership fees.
This will not guarantee things, but will go some way towards ensuring we all have a club to enjoy in the months and years ahead.

Please transfer advance subs funds to:-

Philip Prior.
It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Philip Prior, son of Vernon and Nicola, died in late December. Philip was a highly rated keeper/batsman and a true Shenfield team member. He played for our colts and progressed through the senior teams. One of ‘Pip’s most memorable innings was a hard earned 92 at Horndon on the Hill whilst the rest of the team struggled. Philip was the grandson of our former president, John Burrows and his wife Greta. The whole family, including brother James, were all regulars at the club. We extend our sympathies to all his friends and family.

There will be a service at the Herongate Wood Cemetery at 2pm on Thursday Jan 23rd, followed by a family only cremation. There will be a wake at Bentley Golf Club after that.

There is a tributes and donations page on Love2Donate.
